Another day, another TransLink departure.
This time, the Vice-President of Rail, Dave Beckley, is leaving on Aug. 28, according to one of the final memos of Doug Allen, the interim chief executive officer. (Chief financial officer Cathy McLay was scheduled to become acting CEO on Aug. 11).
TransLink spokesman Chris Bryan wouldn’t comment on Beckley’s separation pay, but said Beckley is helping in the transition. His position is being eliminated and duties divvied up among others. Bryan says TransLink has saved $4.4 million in annual salaries, pensions and benefits by eliminating approximately 30 positions over the past four years.
Beckley was involved in the SNC-Lavalin Evergreen Line Rapid Transit Project, which was supposed to be ready for July 2016, but is supposed to open sometime in fall 2016. The Tri-Cities SkyTrain expansion has been troubled by tunnel boring challenges.
Beckley was also in charge of the Compass smart card and fare gates project until late March, when the overdue and over budget program was shifted to Lloyd Bauer, the chief information officer. On Aug. 7, just a week after Peter Fassbender was named minister in charge of TransLink, McLay announced this fall’s elimination of zone fares on buses and rollout of Compass.
In May, you’ll remember, TransLink said goodbye to planners Tamim Raad and Brian Mills. Top spin doctor Bob Paddon and SkyTrain/West Coast Express general manager Doug Kelsey were dispatched in mid-July. Their severance payments have not been revealed.

Hooray, the guy responsible for the Compass car and the Evergreen Line is gone.
Maybe we can deduct the cost overruns on these projects from his severance?
